Technology to make life easier for a working mum

Innovative technology for today’s busy life.

As a full-time working mother, it can be hard to balance my home life with work commitments. Like it or not, my time – and that of every other working parent – is very often squeezed.

With two young children and two indoor cats, I’ve given up hope of keeping my house as clean and tidy as a show home. Nowadays I’m just happy if I can still see the floor under the inevitable piles of toys.

Thankfully, there’s lots of stuff  – innovative technology stuff to be precise – to make our lives just that little bit easier. As a working mother, some of these things are invaluable.

Here are a few things I couldn’t live without…

Steam mop

It sounds really sad to be excited about a mop, but this has revolutionised my floor cleaning.

I’ve never been a traditional mop and bucket fan and always tended to clean my floors on bended knees with a cloth and scrubbing brush in hand. My steam mop has put a stop to that, deep cleaning my floors in minutes.

Life is so much easier when you don’t have to spend so much of it cleaning!

Slow cooker

This surely has to be every working mother’s dream. Every night when I get home from work I just want a hot meal that doesn’t take hours to prepare. A slow cooker is a god-send.

I love that I can prepare ingredients the night before, stick them into my slow cooker and let it cook gently for the rest of the day. It’s also versatile. Not only can you make stews and cook roasts, but if Mummy Barrow is to be believed, you can also use it to make cheesecake!

Smartphone

This is pretty obvious really, but mobile phones have come on in leaps and bounds over the years. Not only do they take calls, messages, emails, photos and videos, but they’re also the gateway to the internet when you’re on the go.

It means I can always be contacted if my children need me, record precious moments quickly and do a whole host of other things thanks to the multitude of apps on offer.

The best thing about my phone though? The fact it can also be used as a TV remote. Mind. Blown.

GoPro

This little action camera is small, very small. It’s practically the size of a matchbox, but it takes very impressive video. All you have to do is point the GoPro in the direction you want to film and the ultra-wide lens will record all of the action.

It’s so convenient to carry around on days out with my children and I use mine regularly to record our memories.

Digital photo frame

What better way to showcase all the thousands of photos and videos of your children stored on your computer than with a digital photo frame? It’s really easy to upload images, which are then showcased as a slideshow, and you can update it as often as you need to.

How about you? What sort of technology could you not live without?

This post was inspired after Legal and General recently published an article giving their take on modern technology and day-to-day living. I could have mentioned a lot more, but the list could have very easily become endless! I’m so thankful that we live in an age where technological advances mean our lives are so much easier to manage.
