The weekend edition: swimming, soft play and a rainy day challenge

Our very first weekend vlog!

I’ve always been interested in video. I would say that it’s the broadcast journalist in me – I used to be one before moving into the world of PR – but truth be told, it’s something that I’ve always enjoyed.

I like the creativity that video affords and the different ways it can be used to tell a story. As a mother, I love to capture our honest lives.

I’ve been toying with the idea of filming our day-to-day lives for a little while, although always put off by the idea that no-one would find it interesting.

But with family living hundreds of miles away, who I knew would enjoy seeing what we get up to, I decided to go for it.

Here is our very first weekend vlog. Welcome to ‘the weekend edition’!

Our first ever weekend vlog gives you a glimpse into our day-to-day lives. It includes swimming, soft play and even a rainy day challenge.

As you will have seen in the video, I had a little ‘bank holiday Monday fail’ and didn’t do any filming because it was raining so much. So, here’s my weekend in a few pictures.

Saturday

Saturday was all about swimming for us.

My son had a lesson in the morning so we were up fairly early to get to that. He always complains about going, but loves getting in the pool when he’s there – go figure!

After that, we came home and I got a few chores done before we spent an amazing afternoon in another swimming pool. This time it was my in-laws’ one.

Swimming pool

Sophia is increasingly becoming a little mermaid. Her confidence in the water is growing at a rate of knots: where she once used to panic if she couldn’t stand up in the water, she now loves nothing more than swimming underwater.

Swimming

Dexter is two years younger so isn’t quite as confident as Sophia yet, but he’s definitely getting there. His reliance on floating aids is beginning to lessen as his confidence begins to grow.

Sunday

On Sunday, Sophia had a birthday party to go to. It was at a soft play centre so I took Dexter along to have a play while my daughter was busy with the party.

It was a fun morning: Dexter got to run about and make some new friends with other children while Sophia got to handle some animals.

When we got home it started to rain.

As soon as I noticed a break in the wet weather, I bundled my two into their waterproof coats and we took ourselves outdoors for a woodland walk.

Like I say in my video, it’s so nice to get out of the house and get some fresh air into your lungs.

Monday

It was still raining on bank holiday Monday, but we refused to let it stop our fun. We bundled into the car and travelled to Kent where we visited a farm park – Kent Life – and then stayed over in a nearby hotel.

As I mentioned in my video, it was raining so much that I couldn’t do any proper filming outdoors and I had forgotten to charge my waterproof camera. That’s why I stuck to taking a few quick pictures instead.

This is where this blog post gets a little image heavy…
